    Owens Corning
Owens Corning makes several rigid and semi-rigid fiberglass board products for commercial applications. The company’s semi-rigid curtainwall insulation is designed to work with glass, metal, or brick spandral systems. It has an R-value of 4.3 per inch, 2.25 pounds per cubic foot (pcf) density, a noise reduction coefficient of 1.0 for a 2” panel, and is available in 1” to 4” inch thicknesses with or without a foil-reinforced kraft vapor retarder. The 700 series is a available in rigid or semi-rigid boards with R-values from 4.0 to 4.3 and densities from 1.5 to 6.0 pcf. These boards contain 57% pre-consumer recycled content as certified by SCS. The product is made with a urea-extended phenol formaldehyde binder.

Owens Corning has engaged in corporate-wide reporting through the Global Reporting Initiative, so its products get our Information Transparency attribute.

3012-EB-3 Spray Polyurethane Foam from West Development Group, a Henry Subsidiary, is a rigid closed cell foam meant for roofing applications. It is an early adopter of Honeywell’s Solstice HFO (hydrofluoroolefin) liquid blowing agent, which has a very low global warming potential (<5). 3012-EB-3 has a higher R-value (R>6.50), better yield, and higher compressive strength, than standard SPF foams that use HFC-245fa, according to the company. As with all polyurethane foams, this insulation requires appropriate, professional precautions during installation.

    LaPolla Industries, Inc.
LaPolla makes Foam-Lok open- and closed cell spray foam insulations for residential and commercial applications. The company’s Foam-Lok 2000-4G closed cell wall insulation is an early adopter of Honeywell’s Solstice HFO (hydrofluoroolefin) liquid blowing agent, which has a very low global warming potential (GWP <5)—compared to a GWP of over 1000 for HFC-blown products—while offering better performance and yield. It provides an aged R-value >6.3 per inch at 2.0–2.3 lbs/ft3 density. The company’s open cell foam (R-3.8 per inch) uses water as a blowing agent at densities from 0.4 to 0.6 lbs/ft3. As with all polyurethane foams, installation of these products is hazardous and requires professional installation.

  • Dyson Airblade dryers
    Dyson B2B, Inc.
Dyson offers three touch-free electric hand dryers: the Airblade dB, Airblade V, and Airblade tap. All three use a 1400-watt motor and double life HEPA filters that remove 99.97% of the bacteria at 0.3 microns from the air used to dry hands. The AirBlade dB is the quietest, operating at 81 dBA compared to 84 dBA of the other two models. Airblade V complies with ADA requirements without requiring additional recessing kits because it protrudes only 4 inches from the wall. The Airblade tap attaches to the sink and acts as both the faucet and the hand dryer, preventing users from dripping water on the floor as they move to a separate drying area. The Airblade tap also limits water flow rate to 1.06 gal/min and dryers hands within 14 seconds. All three hand dryers are certified under NSF P335: Hygienic Commercial Hand Dryers.

Testo makes a dozen models of ergonomic thermal imaging cameras for building, electrical, and mechanical analyses. The models use 160 x 120, 320 x 240, or 640 x 480 detector arrays and incorporate a digital camera so they can capture both standard and thermal images simultaneously. The Testo 875 has a thermal sensitivity of 50mK (it can distinguish temperature differences between 11.25°C and 11.75°C), and for greater sensitivity the 890-2 has 40mK and includes LED lighting and voice recording. Each model comes with a number of options.

  • ENRGY 3.E Polyisocyanurate Board Insulation
    Johns Manville Corporation
ENRGY 3.E is a polyisocyanurate foam board insulation with no halogenated flame retardants—the first in the industry. Instead of using the standard TCPP, or Tris (1-chloro-2-propyl) phosphate, ENRGY 3.E uses a non-halogenated organo-phosphorus monomer to provide an insulation board with a Class A fire rating. The chemistry of this is proprietary and has not been evaluated by third-party groups, but Johns-Manville has provided information indicating that it is a safer alternative to TCPP and binds much more directly to the foam insulation. This roofing insulation has glass reinforced faces, an aged R-value of 5.7 per inch, and is available in Grade 2 (20 PSI) and Grade 3 (25 PSI) densities.

Louvershade is a two-part interior shading system consisting of louvers and solar-shading fabrics, where the upper reflective louver section bounces light into the room for improved daylighting while the lower fabric section provides shade and glare control. Various control systems are available for specific lighting needs, from basic solar sensors to full integration with building automation systems. The aluminum louvers are available in slat sizes from two to six inches; more than 25 fabric color options are available, including those that reflect light outward; and control options include individual or group controls, timers, solar trackers, photovoltaic power, and more.

    Proctor Engineering Group, Ltd.
Proctor Engineering Group manufactures products that improve the performance of air conditioners in dry climates, including the Western Cooling Control (WCC) system. Air conditioners are designed for humid climates, but in dry climates dehumidification is less important so the WCC allows the fan to run longer than standard AC controls to take advantage of cooling that is still present after the compressor turns off, saving up to 15% in energy, according to the company. The company also offers its Concept3 variable speed, electronically commutated motor and controls for furnaces and air handlers, which can reduce fan energy consumption by 50%. It can be climate optimized for greater dehumidification in humid climates and better cooling in dry climates, and it can accept humidistat input for improved efficiency in mixed climates.

    Excel Dryer, Inc.
By using a powerful blast of air to blow off water droplets, the XLerator electric hand dryer dries hands in 10–15 seconds, drawing 1,500 watts instead of the usual 2,200 watts. XLerator is available in all voltages; 110/120V, 208V, 220-240V, and 277V and the noise level is 80 dB. The company also offers the XLeratoreco, which draws only 500 watts because it does not use heated air. Both are available with an optional HEPA Filtration System that removes 99.9% of bacteria and particles at 0.3 microns from the air stream. A kit is available for recessing the units in compliance with ADA.

    Cellucrete
Cellucrete is certified to apply the Elastizell Roof Deck System, which consists of a low density foamed cement slurry cast over embedded EPS insulation up to 12" thick (R-4/inch). The slurry is air-entrained on site with proprietary protein-stabilized surfactants using specialized foaming and mixing equipment. The use of other additives may be specified. Cast densities from 30–50 pcf for various applications have R-values ranging from 0.86–1.8 per inch. Elastizell insulating concrete is applied over fluted metal, concrete, or wood decks; it fills depressions and flutes to eliminate potential air and water channels. The product is positively sloped during installation to achieve proper drainage and eliminate ponding. Then, a built-up or single-ply roofing membrane is applied directly to the sloped surface. The EPS insulation sandwiched within the insulating concrete is protected during future roofing replacement.

    Wausau Window and Wall Systems
Wausau’s S.E.A.L. (sound, energy, air, and light) window system installs as a retrofit on the interior of existing weather-tight commercial windows or curtainwalls to improve their thermal and acoustic performance. They have a thin profile to fit within existing frames and can be accessed for cleaning via a lockable side-hinged mechanism. A variety of glazing options are available, including laminated glass, polycarbonate, dual-glazed, low-e coatings, and security glazing. Performance of the window assemblies will vary depending on existing glazing and frame. Venetian blinds that sit between the existing window and S.E.A.L. system can also be specified. Wausau recommends a sample S.E.A.L. window be installed for a “seasonal cycle” to ensure that the system will perform as intended. S.E.A.L. comes with a limited 10-year warranty.
