CERCLA: The Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act, or CERCLA, is more commonly known as Superfund. Enacted in 1980, CERCLA addresses abandoned or historical waste sites and contamination by taxing the chemical and petroleum industries and providing federal authority to respond to releases of hazardous substances.
